Transporting food over vast distances wastes a lot of energy, contributes to global warming and the food has lost much of its taste by the time it reaches you. SGG believes that the best food is food that has been grown or produced near you. But it can sometimes be difficult to find local food. This is why we have compiled a list of addresses for you: The outlets listed below sell food that has not travelled out of Gwynedd (except for some outlets close to the county boundary which may sell food from the neighbouring area). An outlet was included if 90% of the fresh food for sale was produced in Gwynedd.
Remember that you shouldn't make special journeys by car to buy food if you want to save energy and CO2. Try to stop at a farm or shop when you are passing anyway.
Within each section the information is arranged by post codes so that you can easily find the producer nearest to you.
If you know of somebody who sells local produce but is not on the list, let us know and we will add them.

2 Meat is the least energy efficient food. Animals eat several times their own weight in feed (which often travels quite far if it is bought in). Also most of the animals reared in Gwynedd are transported outside the county to be slaughtered, or to spend the winter in the lowlands. For this reason the "meat" section below does not keep strictly to the list's rule that the produce has not travelled out of the county. But Corwen is still less of a journey than Argentina.
